“Truly magnificent room, hospitality and garden”
My partner and I recently stayed in Williamstown at the Captains Retreat and were most pleasantly surprised by the wonderful garden! We sat outside and enjoyed a glass of wine by a charming water feature. The ladies who made our breakfasts were a delight and created wonderfully presented, delicious meals for us. We had such a lovely weekend away and I would recommend anyone travelling near Williamstown to stay at this stylish and welcoming B&B!

“Amazing retreat”
This is such a lovely surprise I shouldn’t say anything but keep it a secret!! Beautifully appointed rooms and very comfy beds!! In a perfect part of Williamstown with very close and easy access to shops and eateries. Perfectly cooked scrambled eggs for breakfast together with yoghurt, fruit salad and freshly cooked cake. Highly Recommend the Captain’s Retreat for a lovely getaway.

“The Cottage is Perfect”
We have stayed at The Captains Retreat on about four occasions. Each time we have had the cottage which is perfect for two adults and two children. Comfortable beds, a nice lounge room and small but functional kitchen. The location is excellent, close to all the great restaurants Williamstown has to offer. Melissa and her team are fantastic, super helpful.

“Hospitality and Class”
Whenever I travel to Melbourne for work this is my “go to” accommodation. It is so good that when my wife & I travelled to Melbourne for a holiday we also stayed here. Melissa and the team are incredibly welcoming, the building is unique and wonderfully restored and appointed. There is always something to discover here. Beds are super comfortable. Breakfast is fantastic (poached eggs on toast everytime … and the chutney …!) I have stayed in many of the rooms (all good) but this last trip I stayed in the Captains Spa Suite – what a treat. The location is fantastic. My ONLY reservation on writing this review is that it will make Captains Retreat even more popular so I may miss out next time I’m down! But the cat is already out of the bag!

“Hidden Secret”
I rarely stay in a B&B when travelling, and I have to say, this beautifully renovated cottage has changed my mind. You immediately feel at home just walking through the door. Large bedrooms with gorgeous fireplace (one in the bathroom too, I did not turn that on) – massive bathroom with a luxurious spa. Guest lounge and kitchen was fantastic – loved the orange and poppy seed cake that was on tap at all times. My only need that wasn’t met was a nice coffee machine … other than that a perfect stay.
“Amazing romantic – babymoon weekend”
Captains Retreat was simply amazing. So close to everything that Williamstown has to offer, while providing the luxury of a secluded getaway.
Melissa was a fantastic host and made our stay so much more enjoyable.
We would definitely stay here again.
“Perfect 3 night stay”
We stayed for 3 nights while in Melbourne for a 50th Birthday celebration and Captains Retreat was recommended by a friend who had stayed previously.
Thank you Melissa and staff for a great stay!
Comfy bed, cozy room and a great vibe. The personal service provided makes you feel welcomed and special, thank you. We’ll be back.
“This place is welcoming, clean, extra comfortable, in fact a total treat”
I stayed here for two nights with my husband. The house is full of character and it was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. I even took photos of the mattress to see if I can purchase one in New Zealand. The owner offered to buy one on my behalf! How kind is that.! The staff were so welcoming and couldnt do more to make us feel welcome. There was home made cake to help ourselves to in the kitchen and the breakfasts cooked to order. Melbourne was freezing cold but the fire was aglow and welcoming twenty four hours of the day. Beautifully decorated guest lounge. This place was faultless. The best B and B I’ve ever experienced. We will be back
“Don’t walk on by – Go inside!”
You could easily walk by the Captain’s Retreat without ever knowing it offered accommodation and that would be a sin. The host, Melissa makes everyone welcome and the excellent breakfasts are shared with other guests willing to assist you with your travel plans. The Captain’s Suite at the front of the building is more of an apartment than a room and boasts two balconies, a large lounge and bathroom with double walk in shower and spa bath. We almost missed this treat – if you’re staying in Williamstown – its the only place to rest your head.
“An absolute gem”
Why would you stay anywhere else in Williamstown?
The Captains Retreat exceeded all of our expectations. It is by far the cleanest and most well appointed B&B we have ever stayed in. There is a spacious lounge and dinning area up stairs with a large sunny balcony that overlooks a beautiful little garden complete with a garden table and reading chairs. It really is deceptive from the street just how for back the property goes.
We stayed in the captains suite which is on the top level facing the street. It had a private little balcony with views out over the harbor and was very spaciously appointed. Gas fireplace, large sitting room, sunny bay window with table for two, a very nice bathroom and a large comfortable bed. Our breakfast in the morning was also the nicest I have ever had in any B&B, an actual cooked breakfast made to order, high quality fruit juices and coffee brewed just for us.
“Wonderful”
We stayed here for our 15 year wedding anniversary and we had a beautiful stay! Perfect in every way. We also had a 90min massage with lavannya- omg, amazing! Highly recommended. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and location was great too.
“Just Beautiful”
I stayed here a couple times now for a conference in Williamstown. Melissa Is amazingly helpful, fantastic breakfast! The property is surrounded by history, fantastic furnishings and a memorable vibe! (not to mention the cute kittens) The beds were super comfy, heaps of restaurants nearby and even a sneaky skatepark up the road. The Williamstown waterfront is second to none providing fantastic city views in the evenings. I’m looking forward to my next trip to the captains retreat!
