Testimonials

In 2009,  the RACV rang and asked if I would mind if Captains Retreat was featured in the promotion article for the Top 101 places to stay in Victoria. Of course I said ‘No problem!!

I sent an email out to those guests whose emails we have to say “This is on, we’d love you to vote for us”. And  … here are some of the comments that they made.

As you can see many did not leave their full name so even I do not know which of our guests with these names actually left these messages. But
thanks to all who did!!

Much appreciated.

Melissa

“Captains Retreat is most certainly a 5 star bed & breakfast (maybe a 10 star breakfast) with old world charm and just a short distance from Melbourne, the view of which is magnificent, straight across the bay. Parking is no problem and many restaurants are close by in walking distance. A warm and pleasant atmosphere with a personal touch, a real treasure, definitely a lasting impression. ”

“What can we say about the wonderfull Five Star Captain’s Retreat and it’s Five Star staff …that has not been said by all of the below. Well we could say that on a cold winter’s day in Williamstown we knocked on the door of the Captain’s Retreat and had a chat with Melissa about staying for a while ….that day was June 16th and we stayed untill July 23rd and on the day we where leaving we had a tear in our eye..!!.. Melissa was by far and away the the perfect hostess in the best Bed and Breakfast we have stayed in anywhere in the world..I have read all the comment’s about the wonderful breakfast that the guest’s had, and I have to say they should have stayed longer because the longer you stay the better it get’s and we should know… but on the downside the harder it is to leave!! ..even if you only move across the road!!..We still miss it … know that’s just daft or is it..?. ”

“I’m now working in Byron Bay but worked with Melissa & Trish at Captain’s Retreat until June this year and also loved it. Its important to me to be happy where i work and I loved being a part of making Captains Retreat a special place for people to come to. The guests were all lovely, (bar one!) and I enjoyed meeting all the different people coming through. I’ve slept in each room so i can vouch for them all having their own charm. Its definitely on my list for a lovely place to stay in Victoria. ”

“I stayed there with my boyfriend and we had an absolut great time. It’s the perfect get-away for people living in Melbourne who like to get away from all the stress in the city but don’t want to go far. The beds are awesome, I slept really well and the fully cooked breakfast was terrific as well. I’m going to stay there this weekend again because it was so great! Looking forward to it Melissa.”

“The luxurious bedrooms and interiors, spacious spa bathrooms and warm ambience all contribute to making Captain’s Retreat my number 1 choice! We stayed there on a wild Melbourne winter weekend and yet it was cosy and warm inside. When the weather’s better, or if you can drag yourself out from the comfort of bed, the pier, wharves, shops, restaurants and weekend markets are all only a few steps away. In summer there’s the beach! Melissa’s breakfast is a feast and will set you up for the day!”

“I stayed here for a week in May while traveling on business. Melissa was the most charming and gracious host that you could ask for. She made me feel more like a welcome family member than a paying guest. The location is perfect, within a short walk of the shops and the harbor. The workmanship and decor of the renovation are first rate, as is the breakfast that Melissa cooks each morning. This was the most relaxing business trip that I have ever been on and I can’t wait to visit the area again and enjoy the holpitality of the Captain’s Retreat.”

“A special place to stay has several ingredients for us – location, atmosphere, quality, convenience but most important of all an agreeable host. The Captains Retreat offers us a location with easy access to the places we want to visit and the people we need to meet, the character and charm of a restored home where sympathetic consideration has been given to the means and the style as well as the comfort of guests, but most of all here is a host who is willing to go the extra mile to accommodate guests problems as well as welcome guests ideals and make them her own. No contest for us Captains Retreat and Melissa ring all the right (ships?) bells.”

“We have travelled the world extensively, and nothing is as warm, friendly, re-invigorating, romantic and elegant as The Captains Retreat. Breakfast is an event not to be rushed or missed. Melissa goes beyond the call of duty in all she does and makes you feel like an old personal friend. Do yourself a favour and book in while you can still get in ! Very soon it will be a waiting list only as the secret gets out.”

Melissa is very welcoming to all her guests and makes them all feel very special. I have stayed there myself and so has my mother and we both love it. My mum says it is so relaxing and loves sitting out on the balcony reading and sipping a cup of tea. It certainly is a great place to stay.”

“I was very lucky that the “preferred” accommodation was booked out when I was sent over to Melbourne in March with work for a week. I got to “pick” my own accommodation, I searched the Internet and fell upon “Captain’s Retreat”.. I was lucky enough to get the Spa Suite for the week… and did not want to leave my room to go to work in the mornings.. The whole suite was fantastic, from huge bed to the biggest bathroom in any B & B in the world, and the spa was just what the Doctor ordered after a busy day at work.. The balcony area has fantastic views of the city and is a great spot in Williamstown for all the restaurants, with a great one just next door..
Melissa was amazing, on the last night of my stay I had picked up a rather nasty cold & sore throat / virus.. Melissa saw that I was in pain and took me though to her “medicine cabinet”… this wonderful lady introduced me to the “wonders of Aloe Vera”, and that following morning I had regained my voice… When I get to return to Melbourne, I will defiantly be staying at the Captain’s Retreat.. Ps, The afternoon cakes are fantastic!”

“I am one very happy guest who has stayed at Captains Retreat right in the heart of Williamstown on 5 separate occasions. Each time I have requested a different room and they are all beautifully decorated with great attention to detail, luxurious, charming, spacious and the beds are one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. I would have to say it is the best B&B I have ever had the pleasure to stay in and the host, Melissa is one very special lady. I will definitely be back!”

“We consider this little “retreat” our second home. A short stroll from our business, I was welcomed by Melissa with a coffee and cake. We relaxed in the sitting room, which is tastefully decorated, beside the huge fireplace on comfy sofas. The Nelson Room is like a little apartment and very comfortable. No expense has been spared in this home. Melissa and Aunty Marie, who we might add makes the best breakfast, are simply gorgeous. Thank you, Melissa, for making our stay very comfortable and we look forward to our next visit. We would have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous venue for a romantic getaway. “Captains Retreat is gorgeous and highly recommended! Each room is expertly decorated with style, class and opulance! Melissa and Co are great gracious hostess’ and they go beyond to help out as requested. Not only is it great for a weekend, but Captains also has corporate style facilities which makes it great for business stay overs with the restaurants and bars a skip hop and jump away. I utilise Captains Retreat on a regular basis via work for our Corporate Travellers and they are always impressed. I myself live in Williamstown and I am going to pack my overnight bag and my husband and go and stay there my self one day! Highly recommended to all! Cheers…..Robyn.”

“We have stayed at Captain’s retreat twice and we will definitely go back again and again. It’s our favourite hideaway in the Melbourne area. Melissa goes to all lengths to make our stay a personalized, comfortable and memorable stay – we are treated like VIPs and feel totally welcome and spoilt by heart-warming decor, breakfasts, and surroundings. With Melbourne so close and the beautiful Williamstown harbourside just only meters away from the front door, it’s better than a home-away-from home, it’s heaven-away-from-home. Go and enjoy – you’ll love it too!”

“
We have stayed at this great B&B on three Easter occasions and have been delighted every time. Not only are the facilties historically first class but the hosts are just the best. They were like frinds to us more than hosts. We always look to stay in B&Bs when we travel and this one rates very highly against the best in Australia, NZ, Canada and England (and Tassie). If you choose to stay at Captain’s Retreat you will not be disappointed.”

“We stayed for one night at the Captains retreat and wish we had longer. This is most definitly the best B&B we have stayed in (and we have stayed in many across the world). The bedroom and spa bathroom was fantastic, of particular note was the fabulous bedding. As it was August when we stayed it was a real treat to come back to the bedroom after dinner to find that Melissa had lit the lovely open fire, and our room was toasty and warm. Another thing, what ever you do do not plan to have a quick breakfast and rush off, the cooked breakfast (bought fresh that morning) was something to be savoured. Make sure you allow enought time to relax and enjoy it! Thank you Melissa for making our short stay so relaxed and enjoyable, and for your kindness when we were desperate to pick our babies up after their long trip from Germany.”

“I stay here every night and love it!! (Is that cheeky to vote for your own place!!). I don’t think so because we actually bought this beautiful old house because it was ON THE TOP of ‘our’ top 101 places to stay in Victoria – not just the house but also the great spot here in Williamstown so close to the water and shops etc. We’ve spent the past 18 months renovating and of course we love what we have done but as they say, ‘the proof is in the pudding’ and we have an extremely high rate of repeat customers so …. that helps confirms that we’ve created a lovely place that people are happy to come back to. THANKS to anyone who votes for us. And thanks to RACV for featuring the Captain’s Retreat to promote this ‘top 101′ competition.”

“Beautifully renovated white weatherboard two story cottage right in the heart of Williamstown. I had a cup of coffee and a slice of orange cake whilst sitting in the lovely sunny window looking out over the water. Our room The Captain’s Spa Suite was huge with a comfy big bed and our own lounge with gas log fire and the most opulent bathroom complete with double shower and the deepest and most luxuriest double spa. Breakfast was a delight in the guest lounge/dining room. There are 6 rooms to choose from and include a full cooked breakfast. Loved it, it made me feel like a princess.”
